The Importance of Home Rule and Local Government Rights (SNSY)

There is a very dangerous mentality in many states in America where local governments are expected to be subjugated to the state government, with the state government looked upon as the “god” giving life to local governments. Why is this mentality logically not true? Why is this anathema to the very principles upon which America was built? Why is local government and the upholding of the right of the people to govern themselves at the most local level the fundamental foundation of what has made America work for so many years?
