▶️Brodequin Insturments Of Torture Review◀️

One thing im going to say before we start the review is to me Brodequin represent everything that’s great about BDM of course bands like Nile, Skinless, Mortician, Suffocation etc are no slouches either. Brodequin however just have a sound and method of delivery that really connects with me on a visceral emotional level. Normally death metal bores the living hell out of me but Brodequin are definitely something different.

Alright so the album opens with the absolute brutal “Spinning In Agony” which literally sounds like someone being tortured with super insane guttural vocals all backed up by a raw production that makes the instrumentation sound even more fucking vile and putrid. The drumming is like a jackhammer pummeling your skull into the ground with its relentless blasting, double bass, and sick fills done here by Jan Van. What is it about death metal drummers that make them so fucking inhuman on the kit? Anyways the vocals sound like some kind of demonic apparition bent on torture and pain with lyrics like Mutilation, stretching while breaking on the wheel,

Tied down spread eagle on an iron bar breaks each limb
soothing the crowd's thirst for misery
Cheers of approval following each scream.
Remove the broken body,
Spectators in wait of the ultimate torment,

Its easy to visualize and imagine the torture that the band is speaking about in this song. This is easily one of the heaviest bands in the world in my opinion and this fucking track is just absolute savagery at its finest. The one thing that seperates this album from so many pretenders to the throne of brutal death metals reign is that Brodequin know how to implement brutality without getting super formulaic in my opinion. Songs are usually under 3 minutes and if they were any longer I think it wouldn’t suite this style at all nearly as well. Brutal death metal definitely has that whole goal of pummeling you into a heap of body parts and mush as quickly as possible and with the utmost brutality only being achieved with these ideals in mind!

Next up we have the track “Ambrosia” and of course back into the absolute crushing death machine of brutality with this one as well. Brodequin are not concerned with melody or making you want to party with these riffs and drumming, No they want to annihilate you and all of your senses and this fucking song does exactly that. It is bone crushing in its intensity, delivery and execution. These guys are super talented and know what they are going for on this album as well! Now brodequin are not an overly technical band but what is present on this album is an obvious defining genre aesthetic because up until this point I don’t think brutal death metal reached these heights.. other than with bands like Nile which even at that time wasn’t nearly as common as it is today with countless pretenders to the throne of brutal death metals elite acts.

Brodequin instantly appealed to me when I first heard them back in 2001 because I had never heard anything so fucking viscerally violent in my life . I know a lot of people are really going to hate Brodequin but that’s fine with me because this is a band that isn’t fucking meant for everyone out there . This track is pure savagery at its finest. A pure brutal experience of the highest caliber. This album literally sounds like what transpired during the inquisition and it will make you feel the torture mark my fucking words

Next up we have the brutal masterpiece “Soothsayer” and we are in for more skull splitting sick savage brutality. The drumming on this one is just ridiculously mad and the guitars sound like bonesaws grinding through flesh with an absolute vicious assault. The bass tones on this album are just fucking immaculately done as well guys. The vocals are just sick as fuck too and I have often wondered how Jamie gets his voice to sound the way it does. But his vocals are very fucking unique and serve as another instrument on the album.
