Alright ladies and gentleman it’s Thursday December 19th 2019. Welcome to another episode of Music Of Destruction right here on YouTube. So, today I am doing another Death Metal album review for you guys. Today’s review is of Unleashed-Where No Life Dwells. Unleashed was formed in Stockholm Sweden in 1989. However they didn’t put out any releases until 1990 with their very first demo “The Utter Dark” in 1990. Now what is interesting is that Unleashed were among the first Death Metal bands to write songs about Viking/Scandinavian history and heritage instead of more typical subjects like Death/Gore. The members of the band are as follows. Johnny Hedlund on bass and vocals. Anders Schultz on drums. Thomas Olsson on guitars and Fredrik Folkare on guitars as well.

Alright so the album opens with a really nice soft melodic clean guitar passage that instantly makes you think of ancient Scandinavian battle fields in the desolate cold night. Very epic and celtic riffing going on here that certainly sets the tone for the rest of the album. This is a nice little introduction and I really like this a lot guys! Next up is the track “Dead Forever” and it opens up with some incredible low tuned riffing that instantly takes you into an ancient Viking battle and it has powerful emotions of heroism and glory. One thing I will note is the production. I absolutey love it.

It’s dirty and raw but also clean enough to hear everything that’s going on. Its not super clean and this is the way Death Metal should sound. This is OSDM ladies and gentleman and Swedens’ Unleashed are no exception and one of the pinnacle second wave bands to pioneer this genres sound. The song picks up in tempo and makes you bang your head like crazy before slowing down into a mid tempo death metal crawl that has some amazing groove hook inducing melody to the riffing. One thing I will also note is the bass as it can be heard so fucking good on this track and the entire album. The track then picks up with the frantic blasting and manical riffing along with Johnny’s insane low growls… but it’s not guttural to the point where you cannot understand him. There is also a quick guitar solo to wrap up the track! Killer stuff here ladies and gentleman.

Next up is the iconic track of the album with “Before the creation of time” and this one opens with a fast frantic blasting and some really meaty crunchy low tuned DM riffing with Johnny’s growls belching out like a crazed Viking bent on the glory of battle. This one instantly takes me back to the times of old ancient Viking warfare with its battle driven riffing and drum tempos. There is definitely a very “Battlefield” atmosphere to this song if that makes any sense? I can sure as hell feel the emotions of the ancients on this song and this is absolutely fucking killer. There is some sick blast beats and screams from johhny on this song as well. So lets listen to “Before The Creation Of Time”…….. and we are back ladies and gentleman and this is an absolute banger of a fucking song. Headbanging inducing riffs, savage blasting primal drumming. Ritualistic savage bass and of course Johhny’s brutal gutturals but again very decipherable. It has some really amazing blast beats happening throughout as well before it slows down into a slow crawl with a great lead riff during this part as well! This is a fucking killer song as well and I love it! So far this album is turning out to be absolutely killer guys!
