Where to Pinion bird wings, how to hold your bird & etc (detailed below). /Censored Version/

Silkies do not need to be "pinioned", as they do not fly(due to feathering). I easily use them as natural incubators, garden helpers(weeders/bug control), and prefer them over any other bird, for their high performance(can exist without a feedstore), have medicinal healing meat(TCM) & eggs - which are higher in amino acids. Just a heads up, I've raised poultry since the early 70's/feel Silkies are the ultimate survival chicken over all the other breeds😉😀

Of course, if you choose to raise other breeds 👍 If you raise muscovy ducks/waterfowl, large breeds of chickens, turkeys... I highly recommend "pinioning" your birds to keep them under control/prevent them from leaving via taking flight, jumping fences...

Make note of "how I am holding this Australorp chick" (perfect to protect & legs).

Acquire a sharp knife or scissors , to slice right at wing joint. Make sure to pull flesh towards body before trimming. Just as in "human amputation", it gives extra flesh, to naturally grow over bone at the incision point.😉

If you have any bleeding, sprinkle dry clay (bentonite or...) on incision area (a natural styptic, so are spider webs & etc).

So how have asked me how to do it... Trimming wing feathers is a time waster. I'd rather pinion once, never worrying about it again, as there are so many things to do on the farm.

Good luck (it's not hard #NoFear)
May this be helpful to those out there wanting to learn "how to properly pinion". : )
