Discipleship: A Life of Diligence – II Pet. 1:1-12

How many movies have you seen in which one of the main characters, facing imminent death, rises to the occasion to give one last impassioned speech that inspires everyone else to keep pressing on? That's what we have here with Peter's second epistle. The letter is written near the end of his life; he even mentions in 1:14+15 that he is planning to die soon.

The purpose of the letter is two-fold: to remind the churches scattered throughout Asia of the fundamentals of Christian doctrine AND to encourage his readers to remain diligent disciples. Introducing that second point will be the main thrust of today's study. Discipleship is so much more than a 10-week study in doctrine. It is a way of life that requires diligence.
