Hundreds of thousands of protesters gathered in cities across the US on Saturday to oppose President Donald Trump’s administration, as he held a military parade in Washington, D.C.

Organisers described the day as a “nationwide day of defiance,” with demonstrations taking place across the country.

Anti-Trump activists, including labor unions and civil rights groups, organised the protests under the banner of “No Kings,” denouncing what they described as Trump’s authoritarian tendencies and criticising the military parade held on his 79th birthday.

The protests marked the largest outpouring of opposition to Trump’s presidency since his return to power in January.

They also followed a week of tension in the capital, where protests over federal immigration raids led Trump to deploy National Guard troops and US Marines to try to maintain peace.
