What causes compelling human-interest stories to abound with some people, with these individuals sometimes being aggressively targeted? Are some of these individuals desperately trying to find ways to attract attention in a purely narcissistic matter, or is it that they have a message and take actions that are threatening to the established order of things, either to folks in positions of power or more broadly speaking?

A wide-ranging discussion regarding corruption at the local level, as well as in the court system, establishment media, and state government. Also discussed is the critical importance of local journalism and what it takes to run a local newspaper; immigration; grassroots community dynamics; overcoming obstacles and tragedy; inspiring hope and action; living you life purpose; etc.

Tom Duggan is publisher and founder of The Valley Patriot newspaper, a regional monthly paper out of North Andover Massachusetts. He is a former member of the Lawrence School Committee, was a radio host for 30 years in Lawrence, Lowell, and Boston, has published three books, and now hosts the Paying Attention! Podcast, a web adaptation of his radio show that started in 1999. He is also a 1990 police survivor and a first amendment activist.
