Action Radio 6/16/25, Why Air India Crashed. Flight Instructor Analysis.

There are all kinds of theories out there. I've seen airline pilots with their four bars on their shoulders looking all authoritative. I've seen lots of gizmos and other stuff. But none of that matters. The simple fact is that the pilot took off from a taxiway half way down the runway, and it was a few thousand feet short of what was required by the aircraft manual. It never reached the proper flight speed even though it managed to get off the ground in the "ground effect," and when the airplane got above that, without sufficient flight speed to climb, the only possible outcome was mushing into the ground.

So you can talk about the flaps, or losing power in both engines, or leaving the gear down, or all that other stuff, but all you need is the radar track, the airspeed on the radar track, and the aircraft manual stating the runway required to take off, and the airspeed required to take off, and this airplane had neither the runway, nor the airspeed. Verdict. Pilot error. They should have taxied to the start of the runway, turned around, and used the entire 11,000' which is more than enough. Instead they tried to take off with less than half the runway, or only 5,000' and that was not enough to reach take off speed.
