Title: What is Authentic Faith in Jesus Christ?

Vital Verse: We love, because He first loved us (1 John 4:19).

Date: The apostle John has been credited with writing 1 John during the 1st century. Apostolic fathers Clement of Alexandria, Irenaeus, and Tertullian attribute the writing to John as well.

Nugget to Nibble:
God loved the world, but He commands the believer to not love the world.
1 John 2:15–16 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
God love the sinner, but He will punish everyone that persist in sin.
2 Peter 3:9–10
3:9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.
God love His Son, but He sent His Son Jesus to die for the sins of the world.
Matthew 3:17 and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”

Love is not the absence of discipline, judgment, punishment, or abandonment. Rather, love requires contextualization. In first John the author commands the followers of Jesus Christ to “Love one another.” (1 John 4:7). The statement asserts Christians do not have an option to hate his brother. Authentic Christians seek to live in conformity with the love of God. The brother in Christ must live for God.

The community of believers should provide the best expression of the love of God. After the Exodus, Israel serves as a testimony to the love of God as the nation receives the stipulations to have no other gods due to the Lord’s jealous nature. A saliant feature of the law of Moses surrounds the command to love the Lord. The Shema, the Hebrew word for “hear” or “listen,” is recited twice a day among the Jews. Deuteronomy (6:4–9; 11:13-21) and Numbers (15:37-41) offer the text for the prayer of singular love and devotion to Yahweh. Israel must “love the Lord” their God with all their heart, soul, and might (Deuteronomy 6:5). Again, in Deuteronomy 7:9 the covenant people must love God first, then obey His commandments.
“Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments; (Deuteronomy 7:9).
Sincerely love for God leads to love for humanity and obedience to God’s statutes. Disobedience reveals a lack of abiding in God and love for Him.
