Blessed Carlo Acutis (1991–2006)
Carlo Acutis was an Italian teenager known for his deep devotion to the Eucharist and his innovative use of technology to spread the Catholic faith. Born on May 3, 1991, in London to Italian parents, he was raised in Milan, Italy.
Early Life
From a young age, Carlo showed a remarkable love for God and spiritual things, even though his family was not particularly devout at the time. He began attending daily Mass, praying the Rosary, and going to confession regularly. He had a strong devotion to the Virgin Mary and the Eucharist, which he called his "highway to heaven."
Faith and Technology
A gifted student and self-taught programmer, Carlo used his skills to create a website cataloging Eucharistic miracles from around the world. He wanted to show that the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist was true and scientifically supported. His digital evangelization efforts were ahead of his time, using the internet as a tool for spreading faith.
Illness and Death
In 2006, at the age of 15, Carlo was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of leukemia. He offered his suffering for the Pope and the Church. He died on October 12, 2006, in Monza, Italy.
Legacy and Beatification
Carlo's life has inspired many around the world, especially young people. His cause for canonization progressed quickly due to widespread veneration. He was declared Venerable in 2018, and beatified on October 10, 2020, after a miracle was attributed to his intercession: the healing of a Brazilian boy from a rare pancreatic disease.
