American Bar Association sues to block Trump’s attacks on law firms

The American Bar Association (ABA) sued the Trump administration, accusing it of intimidating major law firms through executive orders targeting their past clients and employees.

The lawsuit alleges these orders violate the Constitution by pressuring lawyers to abandon cases the president opposes.

Several agencies and officials, including Attorney General Pam Bondi, are named.

The ABA called the administration’s actions “uniquely destructive,” warning they undermine the judiciary’s role.

Four law firms previously won court rulings blocking similar orders. The White House dismissed the lawsuit as frivolous.

Despite legal battles, some firms pledged nearly $1 billion in free legal services to avoid sanctions, Al-Jazeera has reported.

The lawsuit intensifies tensions between the ABA and the administration, which has cut funding and challenged the ABA’s role in judicial nominations.
