Welcome to album ranking Wednesdays right here on the channel once again and tonight I wanted to do a ranking from one of my favorite Canadian death metal bands with Cryptopsy. Now I just ordered Blasphemy Made Flesh, I also want None So vile and of course Whisper Supremacy

So I’ve only decided to rank their first 5 albums because after 2005 the band really began to take a turn for the worse. With a three year hiatus and yet another vocalist change the band decided to become a deathcore band. Now while some people were able to adjust to this quite easily? I was fucking pissed right off. I mean really… how do you go from something so incredible as a brutal death metal legend? to a fucking deathcore band. It makes absolutely NO sense in my opinion. But hey I guess people are going to do what they want to do right?

Now one thing I will also say here? I don’t know why the fuck this band isn’t talked about a lot more than what I have seen within the metal community? Because Cryptopsy are absolute gods in my opinion and definitely a band that you will want to check out if you are a fan of extreme metal!

Cryptopsy are a Canadian Brutal Death metal band that was formed in 1992 in Montreal Quebec
An almost supernaturally brutal death metal band from Montreal, Canada, Cryptopsy had the distinction for some years of possessing the genre’s most deranged singer in Lord Worm, whose insane cackles, screams and gibbers lent the remarkably technical music an almost tangible air of madness. Together with Steve Thibault (guitar), Dave Galea (guitar), Kevin Weagle (bass) and Flo Mounier (drums) the band first came to prominence in 1993 with their four-song Ungentle Exhumation demo, which enabled them to sign to the Invasion label in Germany. Personnel changes saw Lord Worm, Mounier and Thibault joined by Jon Levasseur (guitar) and Martin Fercuson (bass).

The first album was Blasphemy Made Flesh, a frantic record which saw plenty of approval among European metallers. Lord Worm, Mounier, Levasseur and Eric Langlois (bass) recorded 1995’s phenomenal None So Vile, an album which evidenced the band at its creative peak and attracted a whole new generation of fans to Canada’s hitherto underexposed extreme metal scene.

However, Lord Worm left the band shortly after (reportedly to work for a beer company). Although his replacement, Mike DiSalvo (ex-Infestation), is a proficient, powerful singer, he had an almost impossible ‘follow-that’ job to perform and the band’s work ever since has remained interesting, rather than gripping.

Rhythm guitarist Miguel Roy was added to the line-up on 1998’s Whisper Supremacy, but was replaced by Alex Auburn on the follow-up And Then You’ll Beg. Unfortunately the band never did return to this brilliance after 2005’s once was not . However even that record doesn’t really impress me as much as the unholy trinity of their first 3 full length albums do.
