They will do any and everything instead of talking accountability, changing their behavior, etc. It benefits them MORE to be an awful, morally corrupt person. Because it brings the narcissist joy to be an awful person. To lie, cheat, get over on you, hurt you, destroy you. While the narcissist knows they are lying, they want to see if you are dumb enough/desperate enough to believe it. The narcissist conditions you to accept the lies, because things run smoothly when you brush it under the rug. The fights happen when you call them out on their lies and disrespect.
