37) The Book of Haggai

HAGGAI, Zechariah, and Malachi were prophets to the restored remnant after the seventy years captivity of Babylon. They exhorted, instructed, and rebuked the remnant to rebuild the temple and the walls of Jerusalem. The circumstances of the hindrances during the rebuilding are recorded in the books of Ezra and Nehemiah. Haggai focused upon the rebuilding of the temple. During the rebuilding of the temple the people faced much opposition from public officials who operated under the color oflaw. Haggai exhorted the people to obey God rather than the unlawful bureaucrats (Ezra 5:1; Acts 5:29).

The five messages of the Lord to Haggai are recorded in 2 chapters and 38 verses. These brief messages contain the eternal words of the LORD. They are practical for any age. The last message prophesied of the Second Advent of Jesus Christ.
