36) The Book of Zephaniah

ZEPHANIAH prophesied during the reign of Josiah. Zephaniah warned of God's judgment on the sin of pride (2:15; 3:11). The historical instrument of correction was Nebuchadnezzar and his army (Jer. 25:8-11), but Zephaniah prophesied of the coming judgment upon all of the world kingdoms by the Lord Jesus (Rev. 11:15). Zephaniah records the clearest reference of the destruction upon the troops of the United Nations or a one-world coalition of Muslim and other pagan nations by the Lord Jesus Christ (Ps. 2:1-4; 78:65-66; Zeph. 3:8).

The main doctrine of the book is the glorious Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, which is called the day of the LORD. The phrase the day ofthe LORD is recorded seven times in the 3 chapters and 53 verses of the book.
