LAMENTATIONS is a collection of five lamentable chapters of the destruction of Jerusalem and the persecution of the Jews. Jeremiah warned of the impending doom, but the people did not heed his warning. Jeremiah records his lamentations of the historical suffering of the Jews because they rejected the words of God (2 Kings 17:15; Jer. 23:22). The book contains the historical record of the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonian army (2 Kings 25).

Lamentations provides a doctrinal picture of the sufferings of the Jewish people during the Tribulation. The promise of the restoration of Israel occurs after the fulfilled punishment of the iniquities of the nation of Israel (4:21-22).
The books ofJob and James are close doctrinal counterparts with Lamentations. The book contains 5 chapters and 154 verses.

King James Version.
