NUMBERS as Leviticus is a continuation of the walk and service of the children of Israel after their exodus from Egypt. This book reveals the awesome power of God to keep precise records of the words and deeds of people (Dan. 7:10; Matt. 12:36-37; Rev. 20:12). It records the rejection of God's will (Heb. 3:7-19) and the consequences of wandering in the wilderness for 40 years. The title may come from the two great numberings of the children of Israel. The 36 chapters and 1,288 verses of this book were written by Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho (Num. 36:13; Luke 24:25-27, 44-45).

Born again believers are able to receive learning, comfort, and patience from the history of Israel because Moses was a shepherd and Israel was a unique church (Isa. 63:11 ; Acts 7:38; Rom. 15:4; 1 Cor. 10:1-11). The book of Leviticus emphasizes the importance of one's holy walk with God. Numbers emphasizes the importance of one's holy work or service for God.
