Concord Credit Union Robbery Suspects Shot, Apprehended in San Jose

On April 21, 2025, around 10 a.m., two suspects, Cruz Vargas and Elijah Phillips, allegedly robbed the Diablo Valley Federal Credit Union on Detroit Avenue in Concord, California, at gunpoint.

Concord Police responded, initiating a high-speed pursuit after the suspects fled in a vehicle. The chase spanned over 50 miles, crossing multiple counties, and ended in San Jose when the suspects crashed a carjacked vehicle.

As officers confronted the suspects, an officer-involved shooting occurred. One suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized. The second suspect was apprehended without further incident. The San Jose Police Department assisted at the scene, and the investigation was transferred to local authorities for review.
