The Good Struggle:

In times of grace there is elevation—
Exalted, heavenly elevation.
In times of isolation there is grounding—
Lowly, buried grounding.
In God’s providence, He weds soul and body.

If the soul ought always be elated,
Repentance wouldn’t be anchored to the body.
The soul does not have a knee to bend,
Nor lips to utter quiet confessions—
The visible bows in service to invisible things.

In grace, prayers emanate like heat
From a charcoal censer to a dim cell.
In isolation, prayers drip like dew
From a prostrate flower to the dry ground.
The nous aglow is tempered by tears of contrition.

The royal path is where deification and humiliation fares—
Aloft in Heavenly worship and wading in tearful prayers.
