Skall is a radioactive wasteland, a scorched red desert. The Skallahken themselves have been grotesquely mutated by the strong radiation, which began the tradition of mask wearing.

At the mercy of such lethal planetary forces, the Skallahken delved into ancient mystic religions, becoming unduly ceremonial and ritualistic, like ancient Egyptians.

There are gaseous lifeforms known as the Rah. These greenish spirit-like entities give off their own kind of radiation. The Skallahken revered the Rah at first, then invented technology to weaponize and harness them.

The Skallahken believe themselves ultimately superior as the survivors of the harshest world. This has limited their numbers, however, and they were forced to bend the knee to Voth. But they have never stopped plotting the fulfillment of their grand prophesies.
