On June 7, 2025, an Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy made contact with an individual behind the Save Discount Store located at 2793 N. Hiawassee Rd. The deputy approached 24-year-old Charles St. Fleur, who was inside a fenced area, to ask about his presence there. Initially, St. Fleur appeared to comply but then picked up a bag and began to leave the area.

As the deputy attempted to stop him, a physical struggle began. St. Fleur resisted and brought the deputy to the ground, where the confrontation continued for over a minute.

During the incident, two objects—later identified as potential weapons—were thrown nearby. As the individual moved toward them, the deputy was able to get up and used his department-issued equipment to stop the threat.

Deputies provided immediate assistance until emergency personnel arrived. St. Fleur was transported to the hospital and was last reported in stable condition. The deputy was also treated at the hospital and is expected to recover fully.
