10.The Primacy of Tawhīd and Worship Through Allāh's Attributes | Shaykh Ahmad Musa Jibril حفظه الله

Shaykh Ahmad Musa Jibril (حفظه الله) affirms that the most essential and noble knowledge revealed to the Prophet ﷺ is Tawḥīd—believing in and knowing Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى. This includes understanding how to worship Him through His Names and Attributes, which the scholars have identified as a distinct branch of Tawḥīd: Tawḥīd Al-Asmā’ was-Sifāt. Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى commands in the Qur’an: “And to Allah belong the best names, so call upon Him by them…” (Surat Al-A‘rāf, verse 180), and warns against those who deviate in His Names. The Shaykh reminds us that it is inconceivable that the Prophet ﷺ would teach his Ummah the etiquettes of daily life like eating and relieving oneself, yet leave ambiguous the knowledge of Allah and how to worship Him. Ibn Taymiyyah رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ powerfully noted this point. Though people differ and deviate in belief, clarity remains for those who are sincere, make supplication for guidance, and follow the Qur’an, Sunnah, and the understanding of the Salaf. Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى revealed the Book to clarify what people disputed and to serve as a guidance and mercy for those who believe (Surat An-Naḥl, verse 64).
