20 injured in lightning strike at South Carolina beach

Twenty people were injured by a lightning strike Tuesday evening at Lake Murray Public Park near Lexington, South Carolina.

Twelve children and six adults were taken to hospitals, while two others left on their own.

The injuries are non-life-threatening.

The lightning struck during a hot, sunny day with a brief passing storm cloud, NBC News has reported.

Emergency services responded, and the park was temporarily closed but will reopen Wednesday.
