How To Improve the Fit Of the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy Con 2 Grip
Many people, myself included, are not fans of using the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons or the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con twos with the Joy-Con grips. They're not very comfortable, I don't think the Joy-Cons are great controllers by themselves, and overall, it's not a great experience. I was recently looking around on Makerworld.com, the repository site for Bambu Labs 3D printers, and just checking to see what other people had been creating. And then I found it, a way to possibly improve the feel of the Joy-Con to grip with about $0.30 worth of 3D printed materials. Let's take a look and see if we can make the Joy-Con Grip 2 better than the original.

The 3D print itself is pretty simple. It's really just a trapezoidal wedge that goes over the screw hole mounts on the back of the grip. This gives you a nice, clean back once you have removed the handles themselves. From start to finish, it's only about half an hour print on my Bambu Labs P1S at a 0.16 layer height using Sunlu PETG. While the plate was printing, I decided to disassemble the stock Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Grip 2.
On the back of the stock grip, there are four rubber grommets that you will have to remove. Underneath these grommets are, thankfully, Phillips head screws and not the traditional security screws Nintendo likes to use. I used my X-acto blade to get under the corners of each of the grommets, and I was quickly and easily able to pop them out. I used a number 0 Philips head screwdriver to then remove the four screws that keep the two halves together. There are six additional screws that hold the grip onto the back of the center joiner piece. I uninstalled these and installed the new plate, it was time to test the fit and feel.
First things first ,this does make the Joy-Con 2s considerably narrower than the originals. The original backing wings or grips add a lot to the side-to-side width, and with them gone, you have a smaller overall controller. I am not sure this is something I would like to use regularly myself, but it could be something better for those who have smaller hands compared to a Pro Controller.
Hats off to the designer for providing a unique solution. Even if it's not something for me, I'm glad to see creators putting items like this out there. Now, however, I may turn to the drawing board myself to see if I can't make something even better for me.
