With Eli and his sons gone, the stage was set for Samuel to serve as Israel's judge and prophet of the LORD. Samuel judged Israel “all the days of his life” (1 Samuel 7:13, 15), but his later years were marked by sorrow and disappointment.
Samuel’s sons “walked not in his ways,” and the leaders of Israel demanded, “make us a king” (1 Samuel 8:3-5).
