The 1986 World Series was the championship series of Major League Baseball's 1986 season. The 83rd edition of the World Series, it was a best-of-seven playoff played between the National League champion New York Mets and the American League champion Boston Red Sox.

With Boston leading the Series 3 games to 2 , the series returned to Shea Stadium for Game 6, with the Mets facing elimination. Bob Ojeda, the winner of Game 3, returned to the mound for New York. The Red Sox countered with their ace Roger Clemens.
