In the video, the person filming the scene could be heard telling the driver that there was no mobile connectivity and to wait for the fire department to come rescue him.

Reuters was able to geolocate the footage from buildings, road layout and terrain that matched local media footage as well as file and satellite images. The date of footage was verified by report from authorities.

Guizhou Provincial Department of Transport said in a WeChat statement that the Houzi River Bridge collapsed from a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall around 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday (2340 GMT Monday).

Authorities said multiple rivers had burst their banks after days of rain in China's flood-hit province of Guizhou, as the annual East Asia monsoon kicked into high gear.

More rain is expected over the next few days, state meteorologists forecast, warning that provinces, including Guizhou, hit by overlapping storms should be especially on their guard.
