The image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is a Byzantine-style icon, believed to have been painted in the 13th or 14th century. It depicts the Virgin Mary holding the Child Jesus, with the Archangels Michael and Gabriel on either side. The icon is rich in symbolism:
