Kansas deputy, suspect killed in exchange of gunfire after a call about fireworks

A Kansas sheriff’s deputy was killed Friday evening in Phillipsburg while responding to a fireworks complaint.

Deputy Brandon Gaede, 30, was shot during a struggle with Kolton Griffith, 27, after attempting to arrest him.

Despite his injuries, Gaede returned fire, killing Griffith at the scene.

Gaede later died at the hospital, the Associated Press has reported.
