Fiala's government approved the extension of emission allowances, also known as ETS2. With great fanfare. And now, before the elections, it is realizing that this was not exactly a good idea. So they are showing off on social media that they will fight for changes in the use of allowances. But just as Fiala and his closest associates realize that the allowances are really a mess, there are coalition MPs who still defend them. And not just MPs like Farský. Former Pirate MP Kolaja has also joined in, believing that only polluters will pay the price, and that this is a good thing. He fails to realize that the “polluters” will include the permits in the prices of their products, and once again, we will all pay for it. The icing on the cake was provided by the disrespected journalist Švehla, who believes that the price increase will be minimal and that we can all bear it. Even he fails to understand the basic principle of economics that everything is connected to everything else. So if fuel and energy prices rise, transportation, manufacturing, and all the products necessary for life will become more expensive. And thus, small amounts—because it will affect a wider range of basic raw materials—will become more than large amounts.
Fiala and his government pack are currently insisting that something must be done. And that they are negotiating with partners in Errorunia and that they even have a few countries on their side. At the same time, they criticize the opposition for not doing anything in this regard. Hypocrisy to the nth degree. On the one hand, the opposition has not signed any such agreement, and on the other hand, the opposition is not in government, so it has no opportunity to negotiate anything. It is not an official partner of the other representatives of EU states.
Fiala even almost swore that his government would not introduce emission allowances. This is one of the few cases where he is not lying. He will not manage to do so before the elections. And after the elections, it will fall to the new government. The theoretical winner of the elections is already preparing calculations of how much the provisional non-introduction of allowances would cost us, given that the state would have to pay some kind of error penalty. And he is also preparing to fight for the complete abolition of this nonsense.
Some countries have also begun to realize that the introduction of ETS2 allowances is actually a disaster. And that is why they are willing to join forces and take some action. However, every step, except for abolition, is either a cosmetic change or a postponement of the execution by one day (as someone wittily remarked on the X website).
And if the current rabble were to win after all, it is clear that this would be the first broken pre-election promise.
