Shiites commemorated the anniversary of Imam Hussein's death on the first day of the month of Muharram.

Shiites from various countries, including Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, and Bangladesh, among others, participated in a ceremony in New York.

Similar ceremonies were also held in other cities in Western countries besides "the Big Apple".
