Companies can determine ON THEIR OWN that an ingredient is GRAS based on publicly available scientific evidence and expert consensus.

(As anyone who has been in court knows, you can get an Expert Scientists to say something is safe and another Expert Scientist to say it is not safe.)

This is often referred to as a "Self-Affirmed GRAS".
While the FDA DOESN"T review the safety data BEFORE the ingredient is used in food, it MAY review the data if a GRAS notice is submitted.

SO, FOR OVER 104 YEARS, THE FDA ALLOWED THE PUBLIC TO BE POISONED WITH (BVO). THEY NEVER DID STUDIES ON IT. COINCIDENTALLY WHEN THE FDA HAS BEEN EXTREMELY EXPOSED AND CRITICISED BY THE MAHA MOVEMENT, THEY SUDDENLY ACKNOWLEDGE IT IS A DANGEROUS FOOD ADDITIVE. THE FDA WAS NOT YOUR FRIEND FOR OVER 100 YEARS.

It is EXTREMELY rare that they do ANY studies on the food additive you are eating. They take the companies word that it is safe and they don't look for safety issues.
