The Disappearance of Maura Murray

On November 9th, 2003, the Amherst PD called a suspect in for an interview with Officer Rivera. He showed her all the evidence compiled against her, the status of the investigation, and the fact that she was the main suspect for a number of concrete reasons - though she was not being detained at that moment, was not required to answer any questions, and would not be arrested at the conclusion of the interview. Upon acknowledging that she understood the circumstances, Officer Rivera proceeded to ask her if she had used the card in question, and she confirmed once again that she had - though she disputed making any purchases from Papa Gino’s. Officer Rivera thanked her for her time and honesty, informed her that she was going to be charged for unauthorized use of a credit card and would receive her court summons in the mail, and was offered the opportunity to make a written statement regarding why she’d done it. She declined that offer, however, but did apologize for what she’d done, and even offered to make restitution for the stolen money, at which point Officer Rivera advised her that he’d notify the court of her cooperation. With that, she left the building, and Rivera turned to writing his report about this strange case, and its even stranger defendant.
Her name was Maura Murray, and in just a few months, she’d become the subject of one of the most famous missing persons cases of the 21st century. Welcome back to The Lore Lodge...
