Aug. 19, 1965 – Los Angeles Police Chief William Parker and Martin Luther King address the press today following the Watts unrest. Chief Parker says the vast majority of L.A. residents wish him to remain as police chief, while Dr. King says Negroes in the city feel that Parker does not understand the problems they are facing and that Parker is “insensitive” to their demands.
