Italy will issue nearly 500,000 new work visas to non-EU residents from 2026 to 2028, a statement from the Cabinet said on Monday. This is part of the strategy by the country to expand legal immigration channels as the country battles shrinking population, low birth rates, and a declining labour force. According to the Cabinet statement, a total of 164,850 people will be allowed to enter the country next year. Italy is aiming to take the total number or immigrants to 497,550 by 2028.
