🧠 QUICK HISTORY:
The Star-Spangled Banner was written by Francis Scott Key during the War of 1812 after witnessing the Battle of Fort McHenry on the night of September 13–14, 1814. As dawn broke, he saw the American flag—tattered but still flying—above the fort. That moment of defiant resilience inspired the words we now know as our national anthem.

Originally a poem titled "Defence of Fort M'Henry", it was later set to the tune of a popular English song and adopted as the U.S. national anthem in 1931.
