Lockdown?

This graphite pencil drawing ‘De Hofvijver (The Court’s Pond) -20-03-20 (Sold)’ is a bit of gloomy impressionism. Strangely it reflects my mood right now. The reason is the unique situation that has arisen. Surely it’s the same for everybody all around the world. Corona caused me nothing to do except for painting and sketching at home in my studio. But hey, that is what we artists do all the time. So I do not feel like in a lock-down, even though all dinner parties and drinks with friends are postponed. Now you feel what artists feel! Still miss my students though.

De Hofvijver

Busy during daytime with my new Frida Kahlo painting I fill the evenings with drawing. It so happened I browsed through my reference pictures. Then all of a sudden I remember saving this one. A picture I took of De Hofvijver (The Court’s Pond) at The Hague in front of the Haags Historisch Museum. Surely I liked doing an impressionistic one again, keeping a rather rough edge this time. Actually, similar to how Seurat would have atmospherically drawn. His depictions in charcoal and graphite I simply adore. You could say that all blurry contour delineations in this drawing are somewhat an homage to his works of art.

Light is Life

There you have it: I put a simple philosophy down for you. Light is life, a virus only survives in the dark. Light is creation and is contrary to all things obscure. Therefor, Light is life! My wish is this: I hope the luminescence in this one is conducive to the evaporation of the Corona shadow. After all, the light is omnipresent and will always be. Eventually the light of all stars in this existent universe go out. That’s the end of the light of or is it?
