Until We Meet Again – Remembering Bart Shively | Funeral

In the quiet embrace of his home on Sunday, June 22nd, 2025, Barton Wade Shively, a towering 58-year-old son of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, found his final rest, cradled by the brotherhood of his fellow January 6 political prisoners, after a heroic battle with stage four lymphoma—a silent enemy born from the poisoned waters of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.

Born on March 29, 1967, in Milton, Pennsylvania, Barton was the cherished son of the late Janet L. Shively, a legacy further enriched by the memory of his grandparents, the late Rev. Kenneth I and Mrs. Lois Bower, who preceded him in death.

He leaves behind his sister, Lucinda M. Peiffer, her husband Dennis, nephew Andrew, niece Hannah, and great-nephew Keanyn, yet it was within the stark confines of Washington DC Jail Gulag that Bart found a new family, a band of January 6 patriot brothers forged in the fires of adversity.

Barton’s journey was one of valor and virtue, graduating from Mechanicsburg High School in 1985 before donning the storied uniform of the United States Marine Corps, where from 1985 to 1992, he stood as a sentinel of freedom, his service a beacon of duty, honor, and country.

A giant among men, both in stature and spirit, Barton was not just an All-American football player but a embodiment of the American dream—tall, handsome, and kind, his presence a reminder of what it means to be a true American man, a hero in every sense.

His love for life was as vast as the open fields he cherished, playing tirelessly with his loyal German Shepherds, Gabe and Pepper, yet it was his commitment to God that defined him most profoundly, both within and beyond the prison walls.

On January 6, 2021, Barton stood as a guardian of liberty, his actions to protect our Constitution from tyrannical oppressors were a declaration of faith and patriotism; leading to his unjust imprisonment & torture, enduring cancer treatment for 18 months as a political hostage.

His story, of sacrifice and strength, resonated across the nation, even reaching the ears of President Trump, who, in Barton’s final days, penned a handwritten letter, a recognition of a man who had become a symbol of patriotism and endurance.

On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, we shall gather to honor him at the Cocklin Funeral Home,Inc., 30 N. Chestnut Street, Dillsburg, PA, at 9:00 -10:00 am for a Visitation for family and friends with the Funeral Service starting at 10:00 am, our hearts heavy yet full, to bid farewell until we join Bart with the Lord Jesus in heaven.

His journey will culminate in a burial with full military honors at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA, at 1:30 p.m., escorted by hundreds of veteran bikers, their engines a thunderous salute to a life lived with courage and conviction.

Barton Wade Shively’s legacy is etched into the soul of America, and his love will forever echo in the hearts of those he touched.

Bart’s lifelong fight for America should remind everyone of the true value of freedom; It isn’t free. Bart paid his life for our freedom.
