DR Congo, M23 To Hold Truce Talks In Qatar Again Amid Trump Pressure | Firstpost Africa | N18G
The DR Congo government and the Rwanda-backed M-23 rebels have said they are ready for peace talks. The remarks came amid a continued push by the US to end the fighting. Meanwhile, the M-23 rebels continue to make advances in the eastern DR Congo. They now hold more territory in the conflict-ridden east than ever. The M-23 rebels accuse Kinshasa of not taking the peace process seriously. DR Congo and the rebels have said that they would send delegations back to Qatar for peace talks, which is hosting a separate but parallel mediation effort along with the US. However, the negotiations have failed to reach a breakthrough. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has brokered a preliminary peace accord between Rwanda and the DR Congo. The US-brokered deal would bring billions of dollars of Western investment to the region.
