It is time we began rethinking the purpose of taxation in America. Taxation has grown far beyond what I, and many others, believe was ever intended by the Founders or permitted by the original spirit of the U.S. Constitution. While taxes are necessary to maintain public services and infrastructure, today’s tax system is excessive, complex, and burdensome, especially for everyday working Americans. Many citizens are now forced to navigate a labyrinth of federal, state, and local taxes, fees, and surcharges that collectively reduce their ability to thrive and build a better life.
