I Am Postponing My Video On the Life and Ministry of Jimmy Swaggart

I was planning to release a video on Jimmy Swaggart and It was going to be about the lessons we can learn from his life and ministry but I realized that is not the right time to have this conversation. He passed away this week and was 90 years old. Right now is the time to give space for his family to mourn the loss of their loved ones. There will be a time to have this conversation but not right now. A lot of people were getting into heated arguments about this online the last few days about this and and I wanted to be sensitive to the situation. We can have a more direct conversation about Jimmy Swaggart life and ministry in the weeks ahead. For those of you who don’t know who Jimmy Swaggart was televangelist, pastor, media mogul, author and gospel music artist. Jimmy Swaggart was ordained as a pastor by the Assemblies of God. He went on to become one of the most famous televangelists in America. During the 1980s, his crusades were a major part of his ministry—drawing large crowds. Swaggart founded Jimmy Swaggart Ministries, which owns and operates the SonLife Broadcasting Network (SBN). He also founded the Jimmy Swaggart Bible College which later closed due to the scandal. Swaggart was the senior pastor of the Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Swaggart ran into some sexually related moral failures in his ministry and because he was so high profile it got national headlines. In a national televised broadcast in February 21, 1988, Swaggart gave a speech and declared "I have sinned" in which he cried heavily and sort of became a meme. Swaggart ended up being defrocked by the Assemblies of God. The AOG as a denomination deals with these type situation severely. So Swaggart left the denomination and become a non-denominational minister. It should be noted that although Swaggard had two very high profile church scandals but It seems that after these situation he did not fall into the same trouble again that we are aware of. He continued in the ministry another 35 years. Swaggart wrote about 50 Christian books offered through his ministry. He sold over 15 million records worldwide as a gospel artist and, in 1980, he received a Grammy Award nomination. He was the author of the Expositor's Study Bible, 13 study guides, and 38 commentaries on the Bible. In the coming weeks I will cover his Jimmy’s ministry more in dept about the good, the bad and the ugly. But right now is not the time to do this.
