Who Needs Men? Apparently No One Until Something Goes Wrong

In 2012, the New York Times published an opinion piece titled “Men: Who Needs Them?”—a smug dismissal of men’s worth in society. The author cheerfully imagines a future where men are essentially reduced to outdated accessories, mostly irrelevant except as sperm donors. According to this worldview, once we have a sperm bank and a shopping list, men become a quaint evolutionary footnote.

This is the same cultural rot that has left an entire generation of boys and men feeling disposable. When men struggle, it’s their own fault. When men check out of relationships, education, and family life, they’re called selfish. And when they take their lives in record numbers, silence. But as soon as someone needs protection, a father figure, or a shoulder to lean on—suddenly men are expected to show up and save the day.

This video isn’t just about one outdated essay. It’s about a decades-long drumbeat of contempt and dismissal aimed at men. It’s about how a supposedly “progressive” culture manages to be so regressive that it erases half of humanity’s contributions while still expecting them to show up when it’s convenient.

If the genders were reversed—if someone published an article wondering aloud if women were obsolete—there would be endless panels, protests, and denunciations. But because it’s about men, it’s fair game for mockery.

It’s time to say enough. Men matter. Fathers matter. Male mentors matter. And no glib opinion piece will change that reality.
