Venue:- Edgbaston Birmingham . Day Three.
The second Match of Five Match Anderson Tendulkar Test series 2025 between India and England is underway at Edgbaston Birmingham. This match is being played from 2nd July to 6th July 2025. In this match England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first under clear skies.
In this match India made three changes from their first test match. Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Akash Deep were included in the playing eleven whie Jasprit Bumrah, Sai Sudarshan and Shradul Thakur were rested for this match.
On Day 3 the match saw a dramatic turn of events with India seizing control through a combination of exceptional bowling and resilient batting and at stumps the visitors India were in a commanding position.
India in their first innings were bowled out after scoring a huge total of 587 runs in 151 overs. England in their first innings were restricted to 407 runs in 89.3 overs and conceded huge lead of 180 runs in their first innings.
At stumps on day three India are 64 runs for the loss of one wicket and leading by 244 runs with 9 wickets in hand.
England started the day three with their overnight batsmen Joe Root batting on 18 runs from 37 balls and Harry Brook not out on 30 runs from 53 balls. Both started the day with caution and aggression and added 59 runs from 92 balls for the fourth wicket.
Indian bowlers created havoc early in the day by taking two important wickets of Joe Root and Ben Stokes in one over. Mohammed Siraj came to bowl and took two wickets of England in successive deliveries.
On third ball of his over Mohammed Siraj first took the wicket of Joe Root caught by diving Rishabh Panth behind the wickets. He went out after scoring 22 runs from 46 balls hitting 2 fours.
Then on fourth ball of the same over he also sent back Ben Stokes back to pavilion caught by Rishabh Panth behind the wickets. Ben Stokes lasted for one ball only.
At this stage England were rattling at 84 runs for 5 wickets in 21.4 overs and follow on looked immiment. But Harry Brook continued his classic batting display and with Jamie Smith tore apart the India attack all over the park.They both batted with utmost authority and aggression and added record 303 runs from 368 balls for sixth wicket.
They not only saved the follow on but brought back England into contention. Both frustrated the Indian attack and scored at will.
Harry Brook continued his good work of batting and was ultimately bold by Akash Deep.He played a sparkling innings of 158 runs from 234 balls hitting 17 fours and 1 six. At this stage England had reached safe total of 387 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 82.2 overs.
After this wicket England slipped from solid score of 387 runs for 6 wickets to 407 runs all out and conceded huge lead of 180 runs.
Akash Deep removed Chris Woakes caught by Karun Nair after conrtributing 5 runs. Then Mohammed Siraj wiped the tail by taking the wickets of Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue and Shoaib Bashir. All these went with out scoring. In England’s innings 6 batsmen were out on duck and still they scored 407 runs courtesy Harry Brook and Jamie Smith record stand of 303 runs.
The highlight of the day was the affluent and aggressive batting from Jamie Smith. He played a gem of innings of 184 runs from 207 balls hitting 21 fours and 4 sixes and remained not out .
The first innings of England ended at 407 runs in 89.3 overs and conceded first innings lead of 180 runs. For India Mohammed Siraj took six wickets and Akash Deep took four wickets.
In reply India started well and the openers added 51 runs for the first wicket. Yashasvi Jaiswal was first wicket to fall LBW to Josh Tongue. He made 28 runs from 22 balls hitting 6 fours.
Then KL Rahul with Karun Nair batted cautiously and survived the day. At stumps on Day three India were 64 runs for the loss of one wicket. KL Rahul is batting on 28 runs from 38 balls hitting 6 fours and Karun Nair is not out on 7 runs from 18 balls hitting 1 four.
Ath the end of day India is in a commanding position with lead of 244 runs with 9 wickets in hand.
