Ephesians 2:1-10

Having described the work of the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) in providing believers with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly places in Jesus Christ, Paul contrast who we were with who we are in Christ. In a clear presentation of the gospel message, Paul reminds us that we were all lost; dead in our trespasses and sin. Apart from Christ we were dead, empty, alienated and without hope.
In Christ we are alive, filled, restored and full of hope. Paul's thesis of the gospel is verses 8-10: For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. God is weaving a beautiful tapestry of our lives as He conforms us to the image of His Son. God assures us that He will complete this good work that He began in us.
