A few years ago, on a scorching Sunday at the pub where I worked, we were overwhelmed with customers. Amidst the chaos, a group of 35 people, led by an entitled woman I nicknamed "Alpha Karen," barged into the beer garden and demanded service without notifying staff. She angrily insisted on menus, ignoring our policy of no food service in the beer garden. After much back and forth, she requested 6 portions of chips, which quickly escalated to 35. Despite explaining the delays due to our busy kitchen, she rudely demanded the chips be brought out one by one if necessary. So, that’s exactly what we did. Over hours, we delivered single portions every 10 to 15 minutes. Frustrated, they left halfway through, leaving 23 portions of chips paid for. The staff and I enjoyed those later, feeling triumphant. Bonus: the "starving kids" weren’t remotely starving!
