Tamara Sujú Roa is a Venezuelan lawyer and human rights activist born on April 17, 1966, in Caracas, Venezuela. A graduate of Andrés Bello Catholic University, she specializes in criminal law and human rights, focusing on exposing abuses by the Venezuelan government. She is the Executive Director of the CASLA Institute, a Prague-based organization that promotes democracy and provides legal support for political prisoners in Latin America. Sujú has compiled extensive evidence of torture, sexual violence, and arbitrary detentions in Venezuela, testifying before the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the Organization of American States (OAS). Her work contributed to the ICC’s 2021 investigation into crimes against humanity by the Maduro regime.

Due to threats from the Venezuelan government, Sujú sought and received political asylum in the Czech Republic in 2014, where she was later appointed Venezuela’s representative by the opposition-led National Assembly in 2019. She founded NGOs like Fundación Nueva Conciencia Nacional, Damas de Blanco de Venezuela, and Fundapresos, which support political and common prisoners. Sujú has faced accusations from the Maduro regime, including charges of treason and terrorism, which she dismisses as attempts to silence her advocacy. She was also sued for defamation by Nicolás Maduro’s son in Spain in 2021.
