Should we end Birthright Citizenship? Should it continue on?
There are 2 sides to this argument, and both, can be valid. But this also cuts both ways as well. Is this an antiquated law that needs to be abolished, or amended? Either way, the economic and political ramifications can work for some and also not work for others. This is not cut and dry and we try and approach this from the arguments from both sides.
Should you be able to drop a kid in this, or any country, and have that kid be an automatic citizen of that country? Does this lead to abuse of the system and laws? If it is automatic, what if the parent(s) don't want their kid to be a citizen of that foreign nation? What if they do, and what happens to them if they are illegal there? With only about 30 countries in the world allowing birthright citizenship, what are the tax and benefit ramifications for those who pay taxes in that country whose taxes are supposed to go to help the citizens in their own country now have to pay for people who are here illegally and "drop" this new citizen in this new land? And are we now supposed to pay benefits to the parents also NOW that they are the parents here illegally but have a "legal" child in this new country?
The U.S. allows over a million people legally into this country every year. By far the most generous of countries in the world when accepting those looking for a better life in this country. But when we are overburdened by illegals who tax our healthcare, schools, food programs, housing, etc., that the citizens of this country pay for which take away from their own benefits and such, something needs to give.
We talk pros and cons, and give reasons for why. We may not have all the answers, no one does, but something needs to be done whether on the arduous task of case by case, or sweeping umbrella reform, you can comment on your thoughts and possible solutions, or ideas for solutions, for this problem. You can't please all the people all the time...
