What are the common side effects of statins?

The most common side effects include muscle pain, fatigue, stomach upset, trouble sleeping, memory disturbance, erectile dysfunction, and cataracts.

What most doctors do not realize is that before a trial begins, patients are enrolled in something called a pre-randomization period to help select the most suitable candidates for the trial. The patients selected for studies are often not representative of many patients who are more likely to suffer side effects.

So, if I eliminate all people who are predisposed to relevant statin side effects such as those on high dose statins, advanced age, female, family history of muscle disorders, vit D deficiency, hypothyroidism, kidney dysfunction, liver dysfunction, Asian, alcohol abuse... I guess we have just eliminated over half of the entire population with these criteria.
