Resident Evil 8: Village | Ethan loses his hand again, but at least he escapes the castle...
Gameplay Part 2
Experience survival horror like never before in the 8th major installment in the Resident Evil franchise - Resident Evil Village. With detailed graphics, intense first-person action and masterful storytelling, the terror has never felt more realistic.
Set a few years after the horrifying events in the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, the all-new storyline begins with Ethan Winters and his wife Mia living peacefully in a new location, free from their past nightmares. Just as they are building their new life together, tragedy befalls them once again.
In this playthrough we cover:
Castle Dimitrescu (Part 2):
Ethan continues his grim exploration of Castle Dimitrescu, navigating ornate halls, secret passages, and twisted catacombs to find four angel masks—each one needed to unlock the door to the castle’s chapel. The remaining two daughters relentlessly stalk him, but Ethan turns their weaknesses against them. In a dim wine cellar, he traps the second daughter in a cold draft, shattering her body like the first. The third is defeated in the library, where Ethan uses a broken skylight and his weapons to destroy her once and for all.
With all stone masks recovered, Ethan unlocks the door to the Hall of Four, descending into the castle’s deepest levels. He enters a massive ritual chamber beneath the castle, filled with ancient relics and signs of grotesque experimentation. It’s here that Lady Dimitrescu, furious over the loss of her daughters, transforms into a towering, dragon-like monstrosity. The two battle across the tower’s heights in a harrowing boss fight. Ethan uses the environment and explosives to chip away at her monstrous form, ultimately bringing her down with a final barrage of gunfire. With her body turned to ash, Ethan escapes the castle, retrieving the dirty flask containing something mysterious and disturbing: Rose’s head.
The Village (Second Visit):
Back in the central village, Ethan finds it eerily changed—new enemies prowl the streets, and previously locked areas are now accessible. The Duke reveals that the flask holds part of Rose and that four lords, each ruling their own twisted domain, are in possession of the other pieces. To retrieve them, Ethan must defeat each of the lords, beginning with Donna Beneviento.
Ethan heads deeper into the foggy mountains, passing through overgrown paths, gravestones, and abandoned gardens. He collects the winged key and upgrades it into the four-winged key, gaining access to the sinister House Beneviento, perched on the edge of a cliff beyond a waterfall. As he approaches, hallucinations begin to take hold—visions of Mia, cryptic photographs, and unsettling whispers seep into his mind.
House Beneviento (Part 1):
Ethan enters House Beneviento and quickly realizes he’s caught in a waking nightmare. After being stripped of all his weapons, he descends into a dimly lit basement where he finds a disturbing, lifelike mannequin modeled after Mia laid out on an examination table. The only way forward is through a series of interconnected puzzles that require Ethan to carefully disassemble the mannequin. He removes her arm to uncover a blood-covered ring, inspects her mouth to find a silver key, and uses clues hidden within her eye and foot to unlock new doors and access codes.
As Ethan explores the increasingly unnerving doll workshop and surrounding rooms, the house begins to distort reality. Locked doors creak open on their own, photographs vanish from frames, and a film reel depicting Rose flashes unsettling imagery. Solving the puzzles requires a mix of observation and item recovery—he must wash the ring to read its engraving, combine tools to open secret compartments, and interpret clues found in the environment. All the while, the line between hallucination and reality begins to blur. As Ethan completes the final steps of the mannequin puzzle and prepares to leave the workshop, an ominous cry echoes through the house. With the power to the elevator still out, he must now venture into the dark to find the breaker fuse.
