Trump’s trade approach raises questions on timing, transparency, and global impact: Analysis

US President Donald Trump says he'll send a series of letters to countries outlining the levels of reciprocal tariffs they're likely to face.
Trump has threatened to impose tariffs of up to 70% unless new trade deals are agreed by the first of August.

In April, Trump had announced a 10% base tax and additional levies on countries around the world.
But he later suspended it for 90 days to allow for negotiations on trade.
That deadline was scheduled for this Wednesday but now appears to have been postponed until next month when higher tariffs could be introduced.
The uncertainty has pushed markets in Asia into the red.

The US President is also threatening to impose additional taxes on members of the BRICS group of emerging economies, and their supporters.
He says any country aligning themselves with what he calls the “anti-American policies of BRICS” will be charged an additional tariff of 10%.
